Obituary of John Rickert
John Rickert was born in Baltimore county, Maryland, April 12, 1841, and died at his home in Clay township, Wayne county, Iowa, December 27, 1910, aged sixty-nine years, eight month's and fifteen days.
Mr. Rickert was left as an orphan whil very young, his mother dying when he was but seven years old. At the age of twenty-three he came West and lived for two years in Illinois. While there he married Orrilla Inman, January 3, 1867. Following their marriage they came to Iowa and settled in Lucas county, living in that place for seven years. From Lucas county they came to Wayne county and located in Clay township, three miles south of Humeston. This was his home until death came.
He had not been in good health for some time and was planning to go to California to spend the winter.
He was taken into the Lutheran church when he was fourteen years old and during one of the meetings held at Maple Grove by W. B. Thompson about twenty-two years ago he united with the Methodist church. He had a strong, clear, religious experienceand was a faithful christian man. In his going the church loses a loyal supporter and brother.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, M.F. Rickert of Seward, Kan., G.D. Rickert and James H. Rickert of Clay township, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Ophy Coffey, of Cambria.
The funeral was held at the home Friday morning at eleven o'clock, conducted by Rev. Roberts, and the burial took place at Green Bay cemetery.
