Sharpsville, March 9, 1946-James H. (Jimmie) Harper, 84, widely known Tipton county farmer and stock feeder, died at 11 p.m. Friday at his home two miles south of Sharpsville following an illness of about four weeks.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sharpsville Methodist church with Rev. Ralph Davison in charge and Rev. Joe Land of Anderson, assisting. Burial will be in the Sharpsville cemetery. The body was taken to the Leatherman-Morris funeral home and was returned to the Harper home at 4 p.m. today.

Mr. Harper was born in Ripley county Feb 7, 1862 to Allen and Elizabeth (White) Harper. He went to school in Ripley county and became engaged in farming there.

In 1889, Mr. Harper married Miss Ida Gilliland, daughter of James and Nancy (Crouch) Gilliland, and they moved to the farm where Mr. Harper died. They were the parents of three daughters. Mrs. Harper died in 1906.

Mr. Harper married Mrs. Katie (Reed) Warner in 1909, and a son born to this union died in infancy. Mrs. Harper died in 1930.

Mr. Harper was active in politics and served as county commissioner from 1926 to 1930. He also served for many years as a member of the Liberty township advisory board and was instrumental in founding the Sharpsville cemetery association of which he was the first treasurer, serving continuously until recently. Mr. Harper was a member of the Sharpsville Methodist church and Sharpsville Reserve lodge No. 363. F.& A.M.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Oren E. Foster, near Goldsmith, and Mrs. Audley Maple and Mrs. Claude Kirkendall, both of Sharpsville; one brother, Emmett Harper, of Prairie township; five grandchildren, Mrs. Martha (Maple) May, Wanita Maple, and Marianna, Jean Ellen and James Kirkendall, and several nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Charles, Everett and Calvin and a sister, Anna, are deceased.
