Donald E. "Pappy" McIntyre, 86, of the Olena community, rural Stronghurst, Illinois died at 7:14 p.m. Monday November 29, 2010 in the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born October 26, 1924 near Stronghurst, the son of Ralph and Eva Burrell McIntyre. On December 16, 1956, he married Rena Walton. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2007.

Mr. McIntyre was employed in the maintenance department of the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown for many years. He also farmed near Stronghurst. He had served as custodian of the former Olena Community Church and was a part time custodian for the Southern School District in Stronghurst. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after his only brother, Dean McIntyre, was killed in action in Korea. He was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church. He loved gardening, his pets, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters - Jean (Blaine) Faudree of Media, IL., Debra (Jerry) Spiker of Stronghurst, four sons - Rodney (Amie) McIntyre and Robert (Barbara) McIntyre, both of Stronghurst, Mark McIntyre of Burlington, IA., Donald McIntyre of Fort Madison, seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one son in infancy, and one brother Dean McIntyre.

Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral home in Stronghurst, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mr. McIntyre will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Banks & Beals with Rev. Steve Minkler officiating. Burial with military rites by the Stronghurst American Legion will follow in the Olena Cemetery. The family requests those attending the service to dress casually. A memorial fund has been established for the Great River Hospice House
