A powerful labor racketeer and union boss, he was indicted for hiring a small-time criminal named Abe Telvi to throw acid in the face of labor columnist Victor Riesel in 1956, who was blinded in the attack. The charges against Dioguardi were later dropped when Telvi was murdered and the witnesses against him refused to testify at his trial.
