She is one of the famous feminist Indonesian woman, she is known for her struggle for equal rights between men and women in the late 19th Century. Her fight included confronting Javanese tradition to keep girls inside the house until marriage. She is a very smart woman with a high intelligent. She always concern about the Indonesian women in the future and she established Javanese girl's school by her own method. Her letters published by Mr. J.H. Abendanon were Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang, another collection of Kartini's letters was titled Just Call Me Kartini Only (1962) . As an appreciation to her pioneership efforts, Kartini was declared a national heroine (2 May 1964) and the 21st April was pronounced as a National Day or Kartini Day in Indonesia.
