Jack Warren 'J.W.' Bane
Jack Warren 'J.W.' Bane, 81, of 2150 Loop Road, Vernon Hill, died Friday, September 27 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 4, 1921, in Halifax County, he was the son of John Jinks Bane and Birda Carol Moorefield Bane. Mr. Bane was a retired merchant, television repairman, and farmer.
He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII receiving a Presidential promotion to Chief Petty Officer for meritorious conduct in action.
Mr. Bane was a member of the Halifax Masonic Lodge #96 A.F. & A.M., served as an ASCS committee member and was a Charter Member of the Oak Level Volunteer Fire Department.
He married Thelma Hughes Bane who survives him. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Bane Owen and Norman Ray Owen, and Betty Bane Geisinger and Michael F. Geisinger of Vernon Hill; two grandchildren, Christopher Warren Owen of Emporia and Allison Geisinger Perdue and her husband, Michael Perdue of Pittsburgh, PA; two brothers, Lacy Weldon Bane and Woody Kent Bane Sr. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Garland Kermit Bane, James Edward Bane, Nannie Dorothy Bane Hodnett and Molly Lillian Bane.
A funeral service was held at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church September 29, at 3 p.m. with the Revs. Lawrence Garrett and Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
