YOUTH DROWNS NEAR HIS HOME

FELIX QUINTO, 5, TUMBLES INTO LITTLE DELAWARE

Felix Quinto, Mexican, 5-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. J. Soccoro Quinto of 538 West 8th Street, was drowned Wednesday morning about 11 o'clock as he was playing on the banks of little Delaware Creek with two small companions.
The tragedy occurred when Felix dropped his BB gun, which slid down the steep bank, and Felix climbed down the bank after his toy. He apparently lost his balance and fell into an icy pool of water about 6 feet deep. The two small sons of Mrs. Leonard McKinney, with whom Felix was playing, ran to the Quinto home to call Felix's mother, who went immediately to the scene.
She was unable to see the child, so ran to the home of neighbors, Mr. & Mrs. Don Cortez at 531 West 9th Street for aid. Mr. Cortez returned to the creek bank with Mrs. Quinto, and Vincent Landin called the fire department and doctors.
Members of the fire department arrived at the scene at 11:15 and recovered the child's body from the icy water. Dr. G. M. Edmonds, Dr. E.L.McCorkle and firemen worked over the boy with a resuscitator and gave artifical respiration for almost an hour, but without success. Dr. Edmonds pronounced the child dead after the fruitless efforts to revive him.
The place where the boy was drowned is a short distance south of West 8th Street, about 150 feet north of the big Rock Island bridge, where it crosses Little Delaware Creek. For many years this has been a favorite spot for youngsters to play, and a similar accident occurred near near the same spot in 1926, when a Montez boy was drowned.
Felix is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Quinto, seven brothers and sisters: Soccoro Jr., Louisa, Delfino, Tomasa, Camilla, Theresa, and Joe. Felix was the youngest of the family. The Quinto familyhas lived in Horton for many years where Mr. Quinto, an industrious and highly respected citizen, is a construction worker.
Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec. 16, at St. Leo's Church. Father Twomey will officate. Burial will be in St. Leo's cemetery.
