Whitney, James W. Sr. 86, of St. Louis, MO. passed away Saturday Nov. 13, 2010. Beloved husband for 46 years of Marjorie I. Whitney (nee Idler); dear father of James W. Jr. (Valerie) Whitney; William Paul Whitney and Louise V. (Patrick) Stevenson; dear grandfather of Nathan Whitney, Anna (Ryan) Cothran, Emily L. (Jon) Riche, and Olivia L. Stevenson; uncle, cousin and friend of many. At age 19, Jim served the Army and his country in the Battle of the Bulge crossing the Rhine with the 8th Armored Division. Jim was a proud patriot and recently wrote a book entitled "You Have Been Selected" about his experiences in Europe. Upon his return, he graduated from the University of Michigan, met Marjorie, and they moved to Kirkwood, MO. He was a founder of the Kirkwood Pioneer Boosters and a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Club in St. Louis. He was an avid artist, photographer and outdoorsman. Jim worked in the St. Louis advertising and public relations communities for many years. Growing up on Mullett Lake in northern Michigan, Jim was also a life long boater and fisherman. In 1983, Jim and Marjorie moved to the Lake of the Ozarks and made many friends in their new community. Marjorie passed away in 1993, and Jim eventually moved back to St. Louis to be with his family. Jim was always quick to laugh, loved life and took great joy in meeting and talking with new people. He loved music, especially from the Big Band era and Michigan marching bands and loved to play it all LOUD! Paw Paw, you will be missed. Go Blue! Services: Visitation Friday, Nov. 26, 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood, MO. Interment Friday, Nov. 26, 2:30pm. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
