Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter, Wed. Jan. 25, 1967, p. 36, c. 1. St. Joseph's Rites Planned for Resident. Mrs. George Scannell Dies at 68; Body to Be in State. Funeral services for Mrs. George H. Scannell, 68, of 200 14th St., who died at 11:18 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Hospital, will be held at 8:45 a.m. Friday at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry g. Riordan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The former Viola Merjay was born Feb. 14, 1898, in the Town of Osceola, daughter of Henry and Eugenia Krell Merjay. She was married to Mr. Scannell on Oct. 23, 1918 at Our Lady of Angels Church, Armstrong. Mrs. Scannell was a member of St. Joseph‘s Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella and Mitchell Community Club. Survivors include her widower; fours sons, Leo and Thomas of the city, Robert, Kewaskum, and James, Ardmore, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. James Twohig, Armstrong, and Mrs. Allen Guell of Campbellsport; 35 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Harold Flood, city; and one brother, Henry Merjay, Rosendale. She was preceded in death by one daughter. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rev. Francis Scannell was seated in the sanctuary. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Morgan, Robert Morgan, Frank Redman, Bartley Welsh, David Flood, Miles Shea, Stephen Scannell, George F. Scannell and James McNamara. Active pallbearers were Robert Guell, William Guell, James Twohig, John Scannell, Michael Twohig, Timothy Twohig, John G. Twohig and John E. Twohig. The Altar and Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella attended the services in a body.
