Civil War Veteran. Enlisted as a Corporal in Company H, 9th Minnesota Infantry on August 22, 1862. Promoted to Sergeant. Mustered out at Fort Snelling on August 24, 1865.

Erastus Alcetus Eddy was the last child of eleven (nine sons and two daughters known), born in Vermont to Lois (Goddard) Eddy (b. 1790, MA) and Phineas Ward Eddy (b. 1790, MA, m. 1812). His mother, Lois, died in 1836, when he was only four. His father, Phineas, remarried the following year, in 1937, to Eunice Amanda Goddard (b. 1807, VT)—his mother, Lois' youngest stepsister.

Erastus married Henrietta Althoff. They had eleven children.
