Romulus Morrison Tuttle,Born Dec.1,1842, Lenoir,N.C., married Margaret Christian Brooks Nov.11,1871 "Rockland" ,Augusta County,Va.
He was a boy in the town Academy when the war for the Southern Independence broke out in April 1861.He volunteered for service in Company F,26th Regiment,North Carolina Troops.
He was orderly Sgt.,then 1st Lieutent,and then Captain.
He was four times wounded- Gettysburg,Pa, July 1,1863,He led his company,consisting of 100 men,in a charge,in which but one man was left standing,all the rest being killed or wounded.In this charge Capt.Tuttle lost the use of his right arm.; at the Wilderness,Va,May 5,1864; at the battle east of Petersburg,Va.The fourth wound was recieved also near Petersburg Sept.30,1864.
He went to Davidson College,N.C after the war and graduated in three years,in June 1869.He spent the next three years in Union Theological Seminary,Prince Edward Co.,Va.,in preparation for the ministry in the Southern Presbyterian Church;was ordained Oct. 1872, and installed over Prospect Church,near Davidson College- his first charge.
He was regularly engaged in the ministry until the last nine months of his life,when he was laid aside by a painful illness,and departed to his heavenly home Feb.20,1904 at Greenville,Va.
He and his wife are buried at Tinkling Spring Church.He was also a pastor at Athens,Tenn.,Fernandina Beach Fla., Longview and Cisco,Tex. and Collierstown,Va.
He was editor of The lone Star and Texas Presbyterian.
