Edward W. Flayer Sept. 20, 1924-Nov. 17, 2010
Edward W. Flayer, 86 years, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Applewood Nursing Center. Friends may visit Ed and his family at the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, 26307 E. Huron River Drive, Flat Rock, MI on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 1 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. Roch Church, 25022 Gibraltar Road, Flat Rock, MI. Father Richard A. Hartmann, Pastor, will celebrate the mass. Burial will be at Michigan Memorial Park.
Ed was born on September 20, 1924 in Buffalo, New York. He was the son of Edward and Catherine (Rothmeier) Flayer. Ed graduated from Buffalo State Teacher's College in 1949 and Stout Institute in 1950. Ed served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On January 27, 1951 he married Betty Jane Keeley. Ed worked happily as a High School Woodshop teacher for 36 years. He was a founding member of St. Roch Church and served his church over the years. The Big Band era was his consuming interest.
Ed is survived by his wife, Betty and his children: Edward (Sally) of Northville, Steven (Carol) of Swartz Creek, Joel (Heather) of Pittsburgh, Jared (Susan) of Tucson and Edyth (Charlie) of Williamston. He was blessed by his grandchildren: Bethany, Brendan, Connor, Kellan, Steven, Scott, Jessica (deceased), Cameron, Garrett, Eric, Hilary, Jordon, Jessica; great granddaughter, Emma and also by many loving old friends.
