Anna Maria "Polly" or "Mary" Kreider was born on July 25, 1761, in Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Martin Kreider of Soedel, Germany, [1728-1773] and Susanna Louisa Pons/Bonne [1731-1814] of Offenbach, Germany. Her father, Martin Kreider, was an innkeeper for Golden Swan on Third street between Arch street and Cherry Alley in Philadelphia. He died on October 20, 1773. Her mother, Susanna Louisa Kreider later married to Paul Gaspar Breton on February 8, 1776. They lived on the Bank of Schuylkill in Passyunk Township in Philadelphia County.
On September 4, 1783, at St. Michael's and Zion's Lutheran Church, Mary Kreider married to Hilary Baker, Esq. They had Catharina Louisa Baker (Schreiner) (1785-1857); Susanna Louisa Baker (Richards) (1787-1881); Maria Louisa Baker (Roberts) 1789-1866; Hilary Baker, Jr, (1790-1840); Anna Paulina Louisa Baker (Tolbert) (1792-1871); Elizabeth Maria "Eliza Louise" Baker (Van Lew) 1798-1875).
Her husband, Hilary Baker, Esq., was a short term Philadelphia Mayor who died during the office of yellow fever on September 25, 1798. Mary later married to John Richards on October 15, 1801, at the Bank of Schuylkill. On November 7, 1808, Mary died and was buried with Hilary Baker at St. Michael's and Zion's Lutheran Church cemetery before relocating to Laurel Hill Cemetery in 1868.
Her granddaughter, Eliza Van Lew (1818-1900) was an well known Richmond who built & operated an extensive spy ring for the US during the Civil War.
