Rites Monday For Former
Fulton Steeplejack
Charles Elmer Beattie. 43, former
Fulton county resident, was
killed instantly Thursday in Goshen.
A steeplejack, he fell 65 feet
while painting and repairing the
root of the Presbyterian church
there. Death resulted from a skull
fracture and other injuries as he
struck a cement sidewalk in the
Beattie, whose son, Elmer was
working with him at the time, was
adjusting the rope on the swinging
chair from which he was working,
when it collapsed.
The victim, who moved to Elkhart
from Fulton 12 years ago,
was born Dec. 19, 1911, in Fulton
county near Fulton, son of Warren
and Ida McMillan Beattie. His
marriage in Rochester on Aug. 9,
1933, was to Pearl Sutton. His home
in Elkhart was at 717 Thomas
Survivors are the wife; the son,
Elmer; a daughter, Patsy Jean,
both at home; the mother, Mrs
Ida Wolf, Elkhart; a brother, Hussell,
Friends may call at the Westbrook
funeral home in Elkhart after
7 p.m. this evening and rites will
he held there at 9 a.m. DST Monday.
Burial will be in the Victor
Chapel cemetery near Royal Center.
