| Birth: | unknown | | Death: | unknown | The Menin Gate Memorial bears the names of 54,900 British and Empire soldiers who died between 4th August 1914 and 15th August 1917. Another 35,000 names of those who died later are inscribed at Tyne Cot cemetery. An inscription on the arch reads 'Here are recorded names of officers and men who fell in Ypres salient, but to whom the fortune of war denied the known and honourable burial given to their comrades in death'. The British Government gave £150,000 to build the gate, which was constructed between 1923 and 1927. Every evening at 8.00 two buglers from the local fire brigade sound 'The Last Post' in a moving ceremony under the gate of the arch.
