Georgette Marie Ropp, 81 of Middleton, passed away Wednesday, Nov.17, 2010, surrounded by her family after a 31-year battle with emphysema.
Georgette was born Nov. 17, 1929 in Wilmar, Calif., to Albert and Martha Keeling. She was the third of four children and grew up in southern California with her brothers and sister. Growing up she was known as "Georgie." She attended Perris High School.
She met Marion "Bud" Hodgson while attending high school and they were married in 1948 in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Elsinore, Calif., were she worked in the family's feed store. Georgette had many beautiful flower gardens and loved to be surrounded by flowers. They had one daughter, Sandra, in 1952. They where divorced in 1964.
Georgette later met Leonard Ropp and they were married in 1966 in Las Vegas. They had two children, Lenette, in 1967 and Loren, in 1969. They lived in Perris, Calif., and then moved to the eastern side of Idaho in the Swan Valley/Palisades area. While they lived there, Georgette made all of the family's bread and canned their food, especially the fish that was caught. She and Leonard were divorced in 1976.
Georgette moved her family from southern California to the Boise Valley in 1980.
She loved raising her family and being a mother, but it wasn't until she turned 60 that she started to live. Georgette said that the last 21 years were her happiest. She bought and built her first home, and traveled to many places in the western states with her friends and family.
In 2002, she traveled around the country with her daughter and granddaughter. They visited the one place that Georgette had always wanted to go, the Watchtower building in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.
Her greatest joy, though, came from being reinstated as a Jehovah's Witness and going to her meetings and Bible studies with her many brothers and sisters.
Georgette is survived by her children, Sandra Hodgson-Twitty of Nuevo, Calif., Lenette Cox (Larry) of Boise, and Loren Ropp of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren, Dorothy "Dottie" Pope, Windy Christie, Sherrie Lomeli, Juliana Rigg, Andrea Cox, Lenneal Krieck, Eric Ropp and Ashley Jelliffe; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Keeling of Cedar Edge, Colo., and a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Killian of Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Maurice "Morris" Keeling; and a grandson, Donald Christie, Jr.
There will be a visitation with the family on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel, 504 S. Kimball Ave., Caldwell.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m., at Kingdom Hall, 1702 Marble Front Rd, Caldwell with Elder Mark Oller of the Jehovah's Witnesses officiating.
The family would like to thank Georgette's granddaughter, Dottie Pope, for her many hours of continuous care and love for her grandma this past year.
