Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company I, 107th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Danby's Mills, Virginia on February 6, 1864. His citation reads "Sprang between the lines and brought out a wounded comrade about to be burned in the brush". His Medal was awarded to him on August 29, 1894. He was one of two 107ths Pennsylvania soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery in the Civil War (the other being Private Solomon J. Hottenstine). (bio by: Russ Dodge)
