THE HENRY BULLETIN, Tue., March 10, 1925, p. 1, col. 5:
The death of Mrs. Robt. W. Alcorn on Thursday, February 26, at her home in Wilson Hill, after an illness of several years, reminded us once again of the brevity of life. Jennie Elizabeth Alcorn was the daughter of Jerry and Elizabeth Gatewood, and was born in this county June 1, 1874.
Had she lived to celebrate her next birthday, she would have been 51 years old.
On October 26, 1892, she was united in marriage to Robt. W. Alcorn, to which union four children were born: Earnest, Robert, Julian and Mrs. Annie Cummings of Centerfield, N. C.
She lived her entire life in or near Martinsville.
She seemed a few hours before her death to have sensed the nearness of her death, when in conversation with her pastor she said, "I do not think I shall get up again".
She was buried the day following her death in the cemetery. She also left the following relatives to mourn her loss: her aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Gatewood of Summerfield, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Vernon of the same place; John, Charles and William of Ruffin, N.C. and Joe L. of Martinsville.
