Kathleen Elizabeth Urbain was born on October 29, 1912 near Placid, Iowa. Kathleen was the youngest child of Joseph Urbain and Catherine McDermott. She was married to Emmet Michael Simon on August 29, 1939 at St. John's Catholic Church in Placid. Emmet and Kathleen were the parents of eleven children.

Kathleen was a very good cook. She made the very best biscuits, bread, jam and chocolate pies. She also made many quilts.

Kathleen died on January 13, 1991 in Dubuque, Iowa.
