Margaret & Herman August Toenjes were married at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Jones County, Iowa on 28 January 1877. Margaret was born in Dixon, IL, before traveling to Iowa with her parents. At the time of her death she was residing in Amber, Iowa. They farmed in Wayne township, Jones County, Iowa.
H.A. was born in Oldenburg, Germany. He came to America and followed his trade as a carpenter for about two years before becoming a farmer. He assisted in organization of Co-operative Creamery Company and was on the board of Directors. Also in organization of German Lutheran Mutual Insurance.
The family is active in Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. This family was known for its ideas of progress. HA was a nephew of William Grumm, on his wife's side of the family, who was a brother of Anna Grumm.

MRS. H. AUGUST TOENJES DIED AT HER HOME IN AMBER FRIDAY
The death of Mrs. H. August Toenjes occurred at her home at Amber Friday afternoon, April 4, at 4 o'clock. She had been seriously ill less than a week.
Mrs. Toenjes was born at Dixon, Ill., May 13, 1859. Her parents were Arend Gerd Zimmerman and Anna Grumm Zimmerman. She was baptized in
infancy, and later came with her parents to Jones county. Her maiden name was Antke Margaret Zimmerman, and she was confirmed at Zion
Lutheran church April 11, 1875 by her pastor. Rev. J. J. Oetjen. The same minister united her in marriage to H. August Toenjes Jan. 28, 1877.
The family resided for 36 years on the Toenjes farm before moving to Amber where Mrs. Toenjes lived for 28 years. This kindly couple were privileged to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary.
There were 13 children born to this union, six of them preceding their mother in death and Mr. Toenjes died June 27, 1938. The surviving children are: John Toenjes, Ireton; Mrs. Warner Heiken (Anna), Anamosa: Mrs. Herman Folkers (Augusta), Amber; Miss Julia E. Toenjes, Amber; Mrs. Edward Heeren (Eliza), Amber; Mrs. Edward Meister (Clara), Denver, Colo.; Mrs. George Siebels (Laura), Amber. There are 28
grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Henry Behrends and Mrs. George Mordorf of Monticello, and three brothers, John H. Zimmerman, Monticello, Herman and Will Zimmerman, Amber.
Mrs. Toenjes was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran church of Wayne township. She was able to attend the afternoon Lenten service on March 14, but a week later was too i11 to attend and asked that her pastor call upon her. Her condition gradually became worse until she passed into the Great Beyond.
