Title: Heart Attack Proves Fatal to John B. Norris: Prominent Citizen Succumbs Almost Instantly While at Work: Funeral Services Will Be Held Tomorrow and Burial at Strawberry Point

"John B. Norris, one of Manchester's best known business men and highly respected residents, succumbed to a sudden heart attack Sunday morning, March 30, 1930, shortly before 11:00 o'clock while at the office of the Shell Oil station, on West main street, which he operated, his death occurring before medical aid could be summoned.

Mr. Norris was in robust health, and ate a hearty breakfast as usual before leaving for the office. He remarked to a friend during the forenoon that he had just suffered a severe pain in the region of the heart, but thought little of it. Shortly afterward Clinton Larson was at the station, and Mr. Norris asked if he would watch the gasoline pumps a moment while he stepped into the stations. Mr. Larsen replied in the affirmative, and a customer drove up and purchased an article of merchandise. Mr. Larson went into the station to ask Mr. Norris the price of it and could not see him. He went to the lavatory door and found it locked. Calling to Mr. Norris and getting no response he looked into the window and saw the former crouched over the lavatory.
Securing the assistance of Joe Elkins the lock was forced off the door and entrance made. The men discovered that Mr. Norris was ill and Mr. Larson hastily summoned physicians, who arrived soon, but life was extinct. Mr. Norris had taken treatment throughout the winter for high blood pressure but a recent examination disclosed that his condition was nearly and his tragic death came as a shock to the community.

Funeral services for Mr. Norris will be held at his late home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. J. C. Cleveland of Manchester and Rev. C. W. Cleveland of Edgewood, and burial will be made at Strawberry Point.

Mr. Norris was born in Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas county, Ohio April 19, 1881, a son of John and Eliza Norris. He moved with his parents to Independence, Ia., when twelve years of age, lived there for one year, later moving to Aurora, Ia., for several years and later to Strawberry Point.
His marriage to Miss Vina Wandell of Strawberry Point was solemnized at Manchester Feb. 20, 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Norris then lived at Strawberry Point for several years, then moved to Edgewood, where Mr. Norris conducted a hardware store until 1919, when he disposed of his interests there and moved to Manchester. He was connected with the W. B. Miller & Son hardware store until one year ago, when he became associated with the Edgewood Oil company here and installed a filling station.

Surviving Mr. Norris are the widow, one daughter, Nina, now Mrs. Bryon Borton, and one granddaughter, Betty Lou Borton, all of Manchester, one brother, Rufus C. Norris, and one sister, Mrs. Fannie A. Kramer of Strawberry Point."
