Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 1993 at 1:30 p.m. at the Franzen-Davis-Bebee Chapel. Rev. Gene Scarbro, minister of Holbrook United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery with Masonic honors by Livingston Lodge #32 A.F. & A.M. and military honors by the VFW and American Legion.
Mr. Gilbert was born June 18, 1908 at Clyde Park, the son of Dudley and Cora Gilbert. After attending Park County and Clyde Park schools and graduating in 1926, he attended Eastern Montana College normal school in Billings and received a teaching degree. During the following years, he married Agnes Hall and together they owned and operated the Sixth Street Conoco until he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. His wife, Agnes, died in 1952. After selling the station in 1952, he was part owner of Western Plumbing and Heating in Livingston. On July 3, 1953, he married Mayme Queen in Livingston. He retired around 1968.
Through his life, Mr. Gilbert enjoyed fly fishing and playing his tenor banjo for dances in Park County. He was a member of the Montana Centennial Band and was invited by the president to play at the White House during 1963 and 1964.
He was a member of the Livingston Lodge #32 A.F. & A.M., the Livingston Scottish Rite Bodies, the Al Bedoo Shrine and Park Post #23 American Legion. He was a city councilman for 17 years.
Survivors are his wife, Mayme; one son, Dennis, of Carlsbad, Calif.; two brothers, Lester of Clyde Park and Herbert of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Mary Stephenson, of Fairfax, Va. and two grandchildren.
