Princess Peter of Greece and Denmark

Daughter of Alexander Ovtchinnikov, and wife of HRH Prince Peter of Greece and Denmark.

They married in Madras, India, in 1939. Upon their marriage, Peter gave up his dynastic rights of succession to the Greek throne.

The couple were estranged from the Prince's family, and his father refused to ever meet Irina. His parents were opposed to the marriage because Irina was not only older than her husband, but she had also been divorced.

Upon Peter's death in 1980, he was buried at Lille Bernstorff in Denmark, being refused permission to be buried at the Royal Tatoi Cemetery in Greece.

When Irina died ten years later, she was interred next to him. They had no children.
