My Dad left us this morning. My mom and I were with him. It was a very peaceful passing from our world into the next, and we are all very thankful that he is no longer suffering. I love you Dad.

Frank A Sherman, 84, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away November 10th 2010 in his home due to lymphoma. A memorial service will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church, on the corner of Cal Young and Oakway, in Eugene, on November 27 at 2 P.M.
He was born Dec. 5, 1925 to Frederick Eli and Myrna Ruth Zickefoose Sherman in Montrose, Colorado. He graduated from Montrose High in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corp for 2 1/2 years.
He attended Mesa Jr. College in Grand Junction, CO, where he played football and was All Conference Guard and graduated with an Associate of Arts in 1948.
He married Kathleen Anne Crain, daughter of Jefferson Rado and Anna Gertrude Duenweg Crain, in Grand Junction, Colorado on Aug. 31, 1946. They had four children, Ken of Bend, Marsha of Vancover, WA, Patricia of Ashland, and Jeff of McKenzie Bridge.
After graduation from Mesa, they moved to Eugene, OR, in 1948, where Frank attended University of Oregon and in 1950 recieved his B.S. in Health and Physical Education. He recieved his M.S. from University of Oregon and his Doctorate of Education from Oregon State University in 1973.
Frank and his family moved to Parkrose School District in Portland in 1950, where he taught Physical Education, Math, and Science, and coached football and wrestling.
In 1961 he moved to the Springfield School District where he was Director Supervisor of Health and Physical Education and Athletics for 23 years.
He joined Kiwanis Club, an organization to meet the needs of children around the world, in 1963. He envisioned an outdoor education camp for youth, and with the Springfield Kiwanis Club and many others in the community, it became a reality for the development of what is known today as SKYCamp (Springfield Kiwanis Youth Camp) near Fall Creek Reservoir. He was chairman of SKYCamp Board of Directors for many years, and served as Lt. Gov. for Div. 74. He recieved the Kiwanis International's highest honor, the George F. Hickson Award in 1999. A chalet at SKYCamp was named in honor of Frank and his wife.
He had been a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church since 1989, serving on the board of trustees for the last several years and involved in numerous projects.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, bird carving, bowling, gardening, playing the harmonica, sports, and sharing in the lives of his very active children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He moved through his life with a passionate commitment to bettering the lives of children and others throughout his life, and will be greatly missed by his family and those whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his brother Rick, his sister Lois Demaree, and grand-daughter Keri Sherman (20 months). He is survived by his wife Katie, his 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and his sister Mary Goodson.
