Jefferson Worden of Northwood - Noted as a Bear Killer
Prospect, April 19 - Jefferson Worden who died suddenly last Friday morning, was one of the best known guides in this section and had probably killed more bears than any man of his age. He was born in "Ninety-Six" or East Remsen early in 1838 and had just passed his sixty-sixth birthday. He had resided on his farm near Northwood for forty years, and had reared a large family. Few men were better known or more highly esteemed in the town and county and he was an especial favorite with those who loved fishing and hunting. His funeral occurred from his late residence Monday at 1 p.m.. Mr. Worden's grandmother, Aunt Becky Worden, died in this village in 1868, aged 106 years, the greatest age of any person in the town of Trenton.
