John Beaufort
Birth: 1832, France
Death: Sep. 15, 1897

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Corporal in Company A, 2nd Louisiana (Union) Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Port Hudson, Louisiana on May 20, 1863. His citation reads “Volunteered to go within the enemy's lines and at the head of a party of 8 destroyed a signal station, thereby greatly aiding in the operations against Port Hudson that immediately followed”. His Medal was awarded on July 20, 1897, 34 years after his bravery, and barely two months before he died. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
