The family moved to Cairo, Illinois by 1866 moving west. Newspaper accounts show the family was in Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas by 1879.
William Skidmore married Miss Mary Spencer on 23 July 1879 at Antelope, Jack County, Texas. To this union, 11 children were born, five of whom died in infancy. The other children were at home at his death.
The family moved west and were in Farmer, Young, County, Texas by 1888 according to the Farmer newspaper. The family headed north into Indian Territory by 1893 living first near Gearyin Canadian County, Oklahoma.
The family moved back to Young County, Texas about 1920.
Survived by his wife; six children - Oscar, Bill, Walter Eli, Bert, Mrs. Minnie Wood, all of Olney; Mrs. Anna Hodges of Dallas; two brothers - John Skidmore of Durham, Arkansas and Lee Skidmore of Quanah.
In 1922, Mrs. W.J. Skidmore left for Dallas to visit her daughter, Mrs. Hodges
