Chester Melton Burns, 80, of Terra Alta, died Friday, January 24, 2003, at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland, MD.
He was born February 14, 1922, at Briery Mountain, a son of the late William Henry and Lillian June Plum Burns.
He was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Salt Lick.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Opal Pearl Burns; three sons, John M. Burns, Chester E. Burns and William E. Burns, all of Terra Alta; two daughters, Wanda LuAnn Lewis, of Essex, Baltimore and Betty L. Napper, of Terra Alta; two brothers, Russell Burns, of North Carolina and Clarence Ray Burns, of Ohio; two sisters, Nellie Nethken, of Rowlesburg and Mable DeWitt, of Kingwood; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil, John and Dewey Burns and two sisters, Goldie Boylan and Eva Burns.
Friends may call in the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, Sunday, January 26, 2003 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday, January 27, 2003 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. time of service with Pastor Stanley M. Waybright officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
