Jim Clench
Birth: May 1, 1949, Canada
Death: Nov. 3, 2010
Quebec, Canada

Rock Musician. A bassist, he was best known as a member of the Canadian bands April Wine and Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). Born James Patrick Clench, he began his career, initially with the group Coven, before succeeding Jim Henman as base player with the Montreal-based hard rock band April Wine. During his time with them (1970 to 1975), Clench contributed instrumentally and vocally on the studio albums "On Record" (1972), "Electric Jewels" (1973) and "Stand Back" (1975); they also achieved a Top-40 hit with "You Could Have Been a Lady" (reaching number 32 in 1972). In 1977, Clench replaced front-man Randy Bachman in BTO, and participated in the recording of their albums "Street Action" (1978) and "Rock n' Roll Nights" (1979); they disbanded following the latter album. In 1992, Clench returned as part of the lineup with the regrouped April Wine, and remained a member until 2006. He died from lung cancer. (bio by: C.S.)
