BRENTLINGER, Marilyn E. Hunt died on September 24, 2010 after a long illness. Marilyn was born on July 6, 1925, in Warren, Ohio. She enrolled in Dayton's Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN in 1946. She received a B.S. in Education degree in 1949 from The Ohio State University, after which she taught nursing at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. Marilyn served as President of the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Playhouse, and she co-authored The Ultimate Benefit Book. She also served on the Boards of the Lakewood Library, the Ohio League of Women Voters, the Advisory Board of Case Western Reserve's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and the Cleveland Sight Center. Marilyn is survived by her husband Paul Brentlinger of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; her sister Dorothy Bisel of Auburn, Indiana, her children Paula Brentlinger of Seattle WA., David (Peggy) Brentlinger of Seattle, WA., Sara (Robert) Walters of Arlington VA., and her grandchildren Bryce and Nina Brentlinger and Julia and Lauren Walters.

The Marilyn E. Brentlinger Scholarship Fund for Doctoral Students will support PhD candidates at the nursing school—particularly those who are interested in being leaders in their profession. The fund was established by Marilyn's husband, Paul, and their children, Paula, David and Sara, to memorialize their beloved wife and mother, a dedicated nursing instructor at Queen's Hospital in Honolulu and St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, who passed away in 2010.
Marilyn Brentlinger, who was dedicated to her career, family and community, earned an RN license from Dayton's Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing and a Bachelor
of Science degree in education from Ohio State University. In addition to serving on the advisory board of the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing (Cleveland, OH), she served as president of the Great Lakes Theater Festival and the Cleveland Play House and on the board of the Cleveland Sight Center, among many other institutions. Just as the Brentlinger's endowment will support students, another endowment will ensure faculty leaders have the tools they need to be the most effective nursing educators possible.
