Carlton Greer, a South Carolinian, came to Georgia and first settled in Wilkinson County in the year 1833; from thence he later removed to Macon County, where he died many years ago, the remains of himself and his wife being buried at old Red Hill cemetery about three miloes west of Oglethorpe, Georgia.
He had a rather large family, among them being twin brothers, Allen H. and John M. Greer, who continued their residence in Macon County while others of the family removed to other sections. These two sons grew up and maried and had families of their own, the children of Allen H., being William M. Greer, Carlton A. Greer (familiarly known as "Gus" Greer) and Mrs. Rachel F. Nelson, formerly Greer, all of whom are now dead. The children of John M. Greer besides several who died in infancy were, Susie, now Mrs. Susie G. Sutton, Robert L., and Charles A., all of whom still live in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
