She married Colonel T. Allen Jones at the end of the war. Her husband belonged to an Alabama Regiment and served on General Stephen D. Lee's staff.
Before her marriage, Alice and her sister, Louisa Lake, lived in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the time General Pemberton vainly defended the town against General Grant. Their home was one of the targets of the relentless bombardmets and they had to take refuge in a cave on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. To this day, the iron grill of the porch and gate are bent from the impact of the shells.
