FARMINGTON - Octogenarian Clarice Dean L. Sturtevant, 100, died Oct. 27, 2010, at the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. She was born in Madrid on Aug. 8, 1910, the daughter of Archie Lufkin and Winnie Douglas Lufkin. Clarice came to Farmington to live with the remarkable Withee/Roberts family on Anson Street when she was 3.
She was proud to be chosen as a student at the Model School. She graduated from Farmington High School and from Farmington Normal School.
Clarice taught all grades at the Red School House until she married Frederick Sturtevant, her high school sweetheart, on June 30, 1931. He died May 15, 1989.
Clarice held offices and was active in the North Church Alliance. Clarice taught Sunday school at the Old South Church and was a "candy striper" during World War II.
Clarice was predeceased by her husband, Frederick, her sister, Ethel W. Pratt and her brother, Raymond Lufkin.
She is survived by three daughters: Loraine S. Norton, of Farmington, Harriet S. Laverdiere and husband Norman of Madison, Mary Jane Sturtevant of Pinellas Park, Florida; eight grandchildren, Patricia L. Cyr of Scarboro, Melissa W. Norton of Mt. Vernon, Letitia L. Gilsinger or Colorado Springs, Colo., Susan Myers of Waterville, Nicholas S. Norton of Denver, Colo., Paul Douglas Laverdiere of Rockland, Andrew F. Faverdiere of Lynn, Mass; seven great-grandchildren and a cousin, Dr. Loring W. Pratt of Fairfield.
A graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Farmington. (Morning Sentinel 10/31/2010)
