Confusion abt Ludie's name.

My mother's family knew her as Samantha. The tombstone shows SMNTHA LUDIE VINSON. I think the stone mason incorrectly spelled it that way or the person reading or writing the name on a work order misread it.

But it should be Samantha, and the name Cynthia shown on Findagrave is incorrect. I have no info that shows a middle name Louisa.

I think what may have happened is knowing how haphazard the census taking was in those days. Whoever was home at the time answered the questions, provided the names and ages(?), and between the person at home and the census taker there were errors on spelling.

In one census year what should be Samantha shows as Cynthia. Another census year it was Louisa. That is where I think Ludie mistakenly was written Louisa.

My message to Leon Collins in On 5/28/2015 2:09 AM,

Synthia Louisa 'Ludie' Lyle is my g-g-g aunt. She has a sister named Samantha Talulah /Lyle/ Dean, so I can't see there being two sisters named Samantha.

I have been to Samantha Ludie/ Synthia Louisa Lyle's grave several times and Smtha Ludid Vinson is the name on her grave marker. Her death certificate has her name as Mrs. S L Vinson, but I think her name is Synthia Louisa 'Ludie' Lyle. Would there be two sisters with the same first name... Samantha?

Maybe I have this all wrong, so if you can clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it. On the 1900 census she is listed as: Synthia L Vinson. On the 1920 census she is listed as: Cinthy L Vineson. Therefore, I believe her first name is Synthia
