Born in Wisconsin. His father, Samuel was a Russian Immigrant, his mother, Sara was born in Illinois. He attended college for two years and was living in Chicago working as a stock clerk when on the 24th of November 1941, just days before the attack on Pearl harbor he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps as a private. His grave marker shows he had risen to the rank of staff Sargent.
