Orville D. Whitney was born to parents Pearl Hartly and Elma Provost Whitney on March 5, 1915 in Haddam, Kansas.
They lived a short time in Nebraska, and then moved to Wyoming in 1929. Orville lived with his family in Morrissey Country, and went to grade school there.
He attended Newcastle High School graduating in 1936. He was in the C. C.'s before World War II, and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He married Ilene Finn December 22, 1952.
He was a rancher, oil field worker, and other things. He loved to sing, recite poetry, help his family and friends, and work as well as play cards and pool with his friend's and brother-in-law Ike.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2516 and a sixty year member of the Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodge in Newcastle.
He is survived by his wife Ilene, three sons, Leslie (wife DeAnn), Leroy (wife Bonnie), Clinton (wife Patty) and daughter in law Debbie Whitney all of Newcastle. He is also survived by one sister, Muriel Kuemmerle of Spearfish, South Dakota; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers, four sisters and one son, David.
Military graveside Rites will be performed at Greenwood Cemetery in the Oddfellows Section on Wednesday, October 27th at 10:00 am. Memorials services will be held at 2:00 pm at Worden Chapel with Dorothy Walker Brown officiating. Coffee and refreshments will be served at the Newcastle Senior Services following the service.
The family asks that memorial contributions to the Weston County Manor would be appreciated.
