William Bruce Bishop, 77, died late Sunday night in the Tattnall County Hospital after a long illness. The Effingham County native had lived most of his life in Statesboro but had lived the last several years in Claxton. He was retired from the State Highway Department after 28 years of service and was a member of the Pembroke United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Pembroke Masonic Lodge No. 469.

Survivors include his wife, Lorena Futch Bishop, Pembroke; a daughter, Cora Lee Owens, Pembroke; a son, Larry Bishop, Statesboro; a sister, Annie Lee Hagan, Pembroke; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hodges-Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. John Hanna officiating. Burial will be in the Northside Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Active pallbearers will be the Masons.

Visitation will begin today at 4 p.m. at Hodges-Turner Funeral Home.
