Arthur A. McMichael passed away October 19, 2010 in Oklahoma City at the age of 88. He was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico to James and Jewel McMichael as the second of seven children.

Art moved to Oklahoma in his youth, attended the University of Oklahoma and became a Naval Flight Instructor in Norman during WWII. He then spent many years in the refrigeration and air conditioning business as well as government contracting. Art's hobbies were always engineering-oriented. Early in the 1970s he studied alternative energy with what few materials were available on wind turbines and solar power. By the 1980s he became absorbed in "how to build a better helicopter". He physically focused on constructing a shop to utilize his machine tools. As a self-taught tinkerer he'd rather make a part than buy one. He excelled at all things mathematical, mechanical, electrical and structural.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha in 2002, his parents, brother Walter, Kenneth, Robert, Kirby and sister Bonnie. He is survived by daughter Gayla and her husband Mark Kelly, grandson Joe Kelly and brother William McMichael, all of Oklahoma City, along with a host of nephews and nieces.

A private memorial service will be held Friday, October 22, 2010.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Deaconness Hospital for their tender care following his hip surgery and at Bellevue Health Center during his residency.
