Andrew J. Katchmar, 80, of Lansing, Mich., formerly of 907 S. Bloomington St., Streator, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Ashley Health Care Center in Ashley, Mich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's Church in Streator. Monsignor Peter Bolerasky will officiate. Music will be provided by the St. Stephen's Grade School Choir, under the direction of Jo Ann Cave.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. The Rev. Jeffrey Lawrence will officiate. The American Legion Leslie G. Woods Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 will conduct military rites at the cemetery, including honor guard, firing squad, flag folding and taps.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Cory Rokey and Kevin Rokey; Ray Soltis, Paul Divora, Delmo Gualandi and Robert H. Brennan.
The Third Degree Knights of Monsignor George A. Dzuryo Council 790 Knights of Columbus will serve as honorary pallbearers. They will include Dr. James Gottemoller, Richard Bednar, Richard Schaibley, Warren ``Pete'' Schneider, Dr. John Kissel and Joe Corrigan.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home.
Born July 21, 1919, in Streator, he was the son of Andrew and Anna (Salata) Katchmar. He married Dolores Krier on July 9, 1941, at St. Stephen's Church. She died April 16, 1989.
He is survived by a son, Andrew (Debbie) Katchmar Jr. of Streator; a daughter, Judith Rokey of Princeton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin (Loretta) Katchmar of Streator; and a sister, Lucille (Mrs. Walter) Shawback of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ray Katchmar.
He attended St. Stephen's Grade School and graduated from Streator High School. He served in the United States Army Armored Tank Division during World War II in Europe. He worked for Streator Dependable, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and the Monsignor George A. Dzuryo Council 790 Knights of Columbus.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Church.
