He was a journalist for the Toldeo (Ohio) Blade and the Tiffin Tribune before moving to New York in the 1920's where he worked for the Evening Post and the Evening World.

He also did work in theater and wrote play scripts for radio.

He also wrote several books including Hell Bent Kid published in 1957 (later made into a western movie called From Hell to Texas), Amelia Rankin published in 1959 and The Taste of Infamy published in 1960.
