Constable Abner Pyles
After a three months' illness with kidney trouble, death claimed Constable Abner Pyles late Tuesday night, his death taking place at the family residence, 404 Boundary Street. Mr. Pyles had been critically ill for the past two weeks and his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Pyles was 70 years old last April and besides his wife, Mrs. Lulu Pyles, he leaves one sister, Mrs. Mollie Crabtree of Jackson. He came to this city 13 years ago from Jackson County and for the past eight years served as constable, being elected twice to this office on the Republican ticket. Mr. Pyles was a splendid citizen in every way, was faithful to his trust and was always honest in all his dealings. Prior to coming to Portsmouth, he served as constable in Jackson County.
The funeral services were held Thursday from the home and were in charge of Rev. C. S. Brooks. Interment was made in Greenlawn.
