| Birth: | Dec. 8, 1809 | | Death: | Apr. 18, 1896 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served thirty eight years in the United States Regular Army, and distinguished himself during the Civil War. He was in command of the 6th United States Regular Infantry during the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and his name is inscribed on the regiments monument on Ayres Avenue in the Gettysburg National Military Park. Late in the war he was brevetted Brigadier General, US Regular Army for "gallant and meritorious services during the Battle of Gettysburg".
