Clarence was the son of David Lewis Hinson and Anna Mayberry. Growing up, he had 3 older brothers and one younger sister. He married next-door-neighbor Gladys Fain on 23 May 1920. He was almost 18 and she was 2 months away from being 16.
Clarence did not want to be a farmer. One day Gladys brought his lunch to him in the field. He told her he wanted to move to the city and get a different job. Gladys replied "Okay!" They moved to Old Hickory, TN in June of 1922 when their oldest child, Lois, was about 6 weeks old. Clarence started working for DuPont. Three more children were born there.
They moved from Tennessee to several locations before moving to Richland, WA in June 1944 where Clarence continued working for DuPont at Hanford. He retired in 1965 and he and Gladys lived the rest of their lives in Richland. All his grandkids called him "Papa".
