Born near Knoxville, Missouri, David Presly Thomson was the son of William McCann Thomson and Sarah Ann Holman; he married Sophia Lange in Jan 1871 in St. Louis, Missouri and died without issue at the age of 83 (refer to Missouri death certificate no. 1762).
D. P. Thomson was a well-known Kansas City photographer, having initially established a portrait studio at 610 Main Street in 1873 subsequent to receiving training in St. Louis under the tutelage of Andrew Jackson Fox. He was listed as a photographer in Kansas City in US census records from 1880 through 1920 and was said to have taken the picture of every distinguished politcal Kansas Citian of his time as well as historical figures, such as Jefferson Davis.
He also served on the Kansas City Council from 1886 to 1887, on the board of directors of the Priests of Pallas, and as president of the Kansas City Club in 1903.
