Well Known Farmer Passes Away At Wells County Hospital
John C. Baker, 60, Jackson township farmer, a lifelong resident of Wells county,
died at 11:45 Thursday night at the Wells county hospital from an infection
which developed from an injury to his right leg.

He was injured last Saturday at his farm when his foot caught between a belt and
a drive wheel pulley on a motor. His ankle was badly fractured. He was brought
to the Wells county hospital and an infection developed making it necessary to
amputate his leg above the knee to arrest spread of the infection.

The infection continued to spread through his system and relatives were notified
Thursday morning that the end was near.

Mr. Baker was born in Liberty township on May 28, 1871, a son of Jacob and
Phoebe Hunnicutt Baker and was 60 years, 11 months and 14 days of age at the
time of his death.

His marriage to Clara C. Paless took place on Jan. 25, 1896.

Surviving besides the widow are the following children. Ray Baker, Van Buren;
Mrs. Gaines Brown, southern Indiana; Mrs. Gayle Ehlers, Buffalo, N. Y.; Mrs.
Guyla Korporal, Van Buren; Pearl Baker, Van Buren; Purl Baker at home, and Fay
Baker, Buffalo, N. Y.

Five brothers and one sister surviving are J. E. Baker, near Pleasant View; Fred
and Ora Baker, Warren; Mrs. Jennie Green, Porterville, Cal.; Bert Baker,
Bakersfield, Cal., and Will Baker, Caloma, Cal.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Union Chapel
church, McNatts, in charge of Rev. George McKinley, and burial will be at the
Jones cemetery, Warren.
