Bio: Willliam Gimeson was the son of John and Martha (Mansfield) Gimeson with whom he was enumerated in 1850 in Carroll County, Ohio. At the time, he was a 20 year old white male farmer who had attended school in the previous year.
On 16 March 1953, he married Mary Runyon, daughter of Benjamin Isaac and Anne Mariah (Mangun) Runyon. They became the parents of nine children.
In 1860, William and Mary were enumerated in Carroll County with three children (Ann, age five; John B., age three; and Martha, age one). William, a 28-year-old farmer, owned $1800 of real property and $500 worth of personal property. The following household to be enumerated was that of his widowed mother and younger brother George.
By 1870, the family had moved to Owen County, Indiana where both William and Mary were listed as 39 years old and had been born in Ohio. William owned the same amount of property as he had ten years previously. Others in the household were seven children (Maria, age 15; John, age 13; Martha, age 11; James, age nine; Mary, age seven; Rachel, age four; and George, age one).
Ten years later, in the same location, William was a 50-year-old white male born in Ohio whose father was born in New Jersey and his mother in Pennsylvania. Mary, also 50 years old, was an Ohio born white female whose father was born in New Jersey and her mother in Maryland. Five of their children were enumerated with them (Oliver, age 19; Ellen, age 16; Sabrina, age 14; George, age 12; and Reuben, age five) as well as William's sister-in-law, Susan Runyon (age 37).
During the next five years, the Gimeson family moved to Norton County, Kansas. On the state census of 1 January 1885, William's household consisted of himself, his wife Mary and three children (Ellen, age 21; G. W., age 16; and Reuben, age nine). The household enumerated just previous to William's was that of J. O. Gimeson (age 24).
At the age of 64, William was again enumerated in Norton County, Kansas with his wife and youngest son on the 1895 Kansas state census.
William passed away just a year later on 28 June 1896. He was survived by his wife and eight children. Daughter Sarah Malisa preceded him in death on 3 November 1872 at the age of one year, one month and 30 days.
