| Birth: | Mar. 7, 1839 | | Death: | May 25, 1918 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. The son of Union Brigadier General Abram Duryee, he served at the start of the Civil War as a Private in the 7th New York State Miliitia. He then was commissioned as a Captain in his fathers regiment, the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry (known as the "Duryee Zouaves"). Finally, he was transferred to the 2nd Maryland (Union) Volunteer Infantry, and led it as its Lieutenant Colonel. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services". (bio by: Russ Dodge)
