Civil War Union Army Officer. He was the commander of Battery E, 5th Maine Light Artillery, and distinquished himself and his unit on Steven's Knoll at Gettysburg on July 2 and 3, 1863. A monument is there today. At Gettysburg he used a revolutionary siting system for his guns making aiming and firing easier, as well as direct hits. The system is still used today to some extent. (bio by: EFB III)

McKnight Hill was renamed STEVENS HILL in his honor because he defended the hill so successfully during the battle of Gettysburg, PA.
