County Donegal, Ireland
|Death: ||Dec. 9, 1929|
County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland
Born in Burt, County Donegal, to John Dunlop. Moved to Derry City at an early age where he operated a bread wagon and eventually ran his own grocery store at No. 1, Marlborough Terrace, Lone Moor Road and Creggan Street. All their homes were within walking distance of Second Derry (Strand Road) Presbyterian.
William and Mary Anne Wallace married in 1877 and had three sons, William Wallace, John and Thomas. Sadly Mary Anne died soon after the birth of Thomas. William remarried in 1896 to Margaret Ann Robinson who essentially raised the three boys.
William and Margaret had one daughter who did not survive. Son William Wallace became a National Schools teacher and then a supervisor; John moved to Montreal in 1905 where he spent his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway Pension Office; and Thomas moved to British Columbia about 1907.
Son John named his first two children for his father William and step-mother Margaret. After retiring, William lived with his son William Wallace Dunlop in County Fermanagh while Margaret lived with her sister in Derry. John sailed back in 1929 to visit family after William's funeral.
John was such a good and kind man who never spoke ill of anyone that likely his father William was the same sort of person.
