Clara Leigh Richards was the 3rd of 9 children born to Albert Simmons Richards (1862 - 1946) and Lorene Celeste Cuneo (1872 - 1947).
Albert, Lorena, their children and grandkids spent summers at their 400 acre farm in the cool mountains near Asheville, NC, in Broad River Township. Albert was the family historian and an avid genealogist. The fruits of his genealogy research were shared with subsequent generations through the publication of the Richards Family History, a richly-detailed account of the nine generations (at the time) of Richards that preceded him, traced back to John Alden and Abigail Thayer. Albert was especially proud of the fact that in more than 300 years of nine generations of Richards, there were no divorces nor any criminal offenses. He was deeply devoted to the preservation of his ancestral roots, a lover of music, literature, and celebrations.

Clara Leigh grew up close to Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, and must have enjoyed swimming with her family and friends. She grabbed a life guard rope but was pushed underwater. She was taken to Cook's and discharged the next day." Source: Sat., Jun 22, 1929; Tampa Tribune (Tampa, FL); Pg: 10.
At the age of 37, Clara Leigh Richards married Charles Green Peeler, Jr on Aug 11, 1934. Clara was a Stenographer and Charles was employed by the Tampa Daily Times. Clara and Charles never had children. Tragically, they both died in 1951. Clara was only 54 and Charles was 55.
